On making things for the love of making them.
There has been a rather important development here at Woven Witch.
After much consideration, several cups of something caffeinated, and an extensive review by our resident black cat, we have decided to formally abolish all productivity targets.
There will be no quarterly performance reviews. No compulsory output. No frantic attempts to keep up with trends, algorithms or the mysterious demands of the internet.
Woven Witch is, first and foremost, a passion project.
It is a place for creativity, curiosity and the simple pleasure of making things.
Sometimes that means spending weeks crocheting an elaborate cardigan. Sometimes it means working on a delicate piece of jewellery, experimenting with fabric, writing a Journal entry or learning an entirely new craft.
And sometimes it means doing absolutely nothing at all.
That is perfectly acceptable.
The freedom to follow a creative whim
There is something rather wonderful about being able to make whatever captures your imagination.
A cardigan might begin with a beautiful ball of yarn. A piece of jewellery might grow from the idea of a climbing vine. A tiny crochet outfit might be inspired by a doll with enormous eyes and a slightly suspicious expression.
Not every idea needs to become a product.
Not every project needs to be finished quickly.
And not every creative endeavour needs to justify its existence by making money.
Some things are worth making simply because they bring us joy.
A shop, but not a factory
Of course, Woven Witch has a shop.
There are handmade pieces available for anyone who happens to fall in love with them. Each one represents time, care, imagination and the pleasure of creating something a little unusual.
And if someone chooses to buy one, that is a wonderful thing.
But sales are not the measure of whether Woven Witch is worthwhile.
A cardigan does not become less beautiful because it hasn't sold. A necklace does not lose its magic because nobody has discovered it yet.
The joy of making was already there.
The shop is an invitation, not an obligation.
The official Woven Witch policy
Following a meeting of the Woven Witch Management Committee (attendance: one witch and one extremely opinionated black cat), the following principles have been adopted:
Create what you love. Curiosity and enthusiasm are perfectly valid reasons to begin something.
Take your time. Handmade work does not need to obey a production schedule.
Follow your interests. Crochet, jewellery, sewing, miniatures, photography, filmmaking — there is room for all of it.
Rest without guilt. An afternoon spent relaxing is not a failed working day.
Share what you make. The Journal and shop are places to celebrate creativity, not compete for attention.
Welcome a sale, but never depend on one for creative satisfaction. Making money would be lovely. Making things is already lovely.
Our resident feline manager has requested that a seventh policy be added concerning compulsory treats and unrestricted access to comfortable chairs.
This remains under review.
A little world of our own
Perhaps that is what Woven Witch has been all along.
Not a race to build an empire, but a small enchanted world where ideas are allowed to grow at their own pace.
A place for beautiful yarn, curious objects, unexpected experiments and the occasional gloriously impractical project.
A place where making something is enough.
And if, somewhere along the way, somebody decides to take a little piece of that world home with them?
Well, that would be rather lovely too.
Create what you love. Share what you make. Sell what you feel like selling.
With love, yarn, and absolutely no productivity targets,
Woven Witch 🖤
