Today marks a rather special milestone for Woven Witch: the completion of my very first miniature crochet garment.
With Maybel, my beautiful little doll, having only just arrived, I couldn't resist making something especially for her. And so began a new creative adventure — crocheting on a much smaller scale than I'm used to.
Armed with a 1.25mm crochet hook and some delicate cream Anchor thread, I set about making a tiny lace shawl.
Working with such fine thread is something I'm familiar with from making my crochet jewellery, but creating clothing for a doll is a completely different experience. Every stitch matters, and the proportions are so much smaller than those of my usual garments.
I decided on a triangular shawl with an open lace pattern, gradually increasing the width row by row. After eight rows, it was finally wide enough to fit across Maybel's little shoulders.
There was even a fitting session!
I carefully draped the unfinished shawl over Maybel's pale-blue fairy dress to check the size. Seeing the lace resting against her outfit for the first time was a wonderful moment. It was beginning to look like a real miniature garment.
Once I was happy with the fit, I added a delicate edging and crocheted two little ties so that the shawl could be fastened comfortably at the front.
For the finishing touch, I chose a tiny dusty-pink crochet flower from my collection and attached it to the bottom point of the shawl.
That little flower brought the whole piece together.
And then came the moment I'd been looking forward to: dressing Maybel in her very first handmade Woven Witch creation.
It fitted beautifully!
The cream lace complements her fairy dress, while the pink flower hangs delicately down her back. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
I've named it Maybel's Enchanted Blossom Shawl.
Although it's a tiny piece, it represents something much bigger to me. It's the beginning of a new creative direction for Woven Witch — exploring miniature fashion, delicate accessories, and handmade clothing for dolls.
I'm looking forward to experimenting with more miniature designs, combining crochet with sewing and perhaps eventually creating an entire little wardrobe for Maybel.
For now, though, I'm simply enjoying this first achievement.
One tiny shawl, one little pink flower, and a whole new world of possibilities.
Handmade with a little magic,
Woven Witch 🌸
