Before a Woven Witch Cardigan Leaves the Workshop

Making the final stitch isn't quite the end of a Woven Witch cardigan.

Before one of my handmade garments is ready to become stock, there is another little stage waiting for it: its first wash.

I've chosen Ecover Zero Delicate Laundry Liquid for Wool & Silk for my finished garments. I wanted something gentle and, importantly, fragrance-free. I love beautiful scents in my own home—there is currently a vase of dried lavender beside my workspace—but I don't believe somebody buying one of my cardigans should necessarily receive my choice of fragrance along with it.

A new Woven Witch garment should simply arrive clean and fresh.

The yarn I'm currently using for the WildWood Collection is easy-care and machine washable, which thankfully means I won't be standing over a bath hand-washing five enormous crochet cardigans!

Once each cardigan is completely finished, it will be carefully washed according to the yarn's care instructions, dried and reshaped before being inspected one final time.

After that, it will be stored safely until it finds its future owner.

It's a small part of making something handmade, and certainly not the glamorous part. But when someone eventually opens a Woven Witch parcel, I want to know that I've cared about the garment right through to the very last detail.

From the first ball of yarn...

to the last stitch...

to the first wash.
