✨ Glitter, Patience & Reading Glasses

There is something about glitter thread that feels perfectly at home in the world of Woven Witch.

I use glitter threads throughout my jewellery range. They appear in my crocheted chokers, earrings, necklaces and tiny decorative pieces, adding that little flash of light that changes as the piece moves. I love the way something so delicate can catch the light and suddenly sparkle.

But there is a price to pay for all that magic.

This yarn is not easy to crochet with.

The thread is incredibly fine, and working with it requires much more concentration than crocheting with ordinary yarn. The stitches are tiny, the thread can be difficult to see clearly, and mistakes are considerably harder to spot.

In fact, I have reached the point where my crochet equipment now includes something I never expected:

Reading glasses. 😂

When I'm working with these fine glitter threads, I need to wear them simply to see what I'm doing. My crochet hook is tiny, the stitches are tinier, and apparently the Witch's eyesight has limits.

There is something rather amusing about sitting surrounded by sparkling jewel-coloured threads, creating intricate gothic jewellery while peering over a pair of reading glasses trying to work out exactly where the next stitch is supposed to go.

Perhaps not quite the mysterious image of witchcraft I had in mind.

But that's handmade work.

The finished piece might look delicate and effortless, while behind it are hours of concentration, tiny hooks, stubborn thread, unravelled mistakes — and one slightly exasperated woman wearing reading glasses.

I wouldn't swap the glitter thread for something easier, though.

These little balls of colour have become part of the identity of Woven Witch jewellery. From deep purples and blacks to silver, gold, jewel greens, reds and shimmering pinks, each colour has its own character and seems to suggest what it wants to become.

Some become flowers.
Some become crosses.
Some become strange little creatures.
Some eventually find their way into something entirely unexpected.

And when the finished crochet catches the light, all the squinting suddenly seems worthwhile.

The magic, it turns out, just requires reading glasses. ✨🧶👓
