The Lore of Woven Witch
Somewhere between the ordinary world and the WildWood stands a peculiar little workshop.
It belongs to the Woven Witch.
She is an eccentric artisan who discovered long ago that a simple hook and a strand of yarn could be persuaded into becoming almost anything. Cardigans grew from her hook like woodland coats. Flowers became jewellery. Leaves became necklaces. And occasionally, when the mood took her, small enchanted creatures appeared amongst the stitches.
She rarely works entirely alone.
🍒 Cherry — The Silent Muse
Cherry never speaks.
She doesn't need to.
Standing patiently in the workshop, she is the keeper of finished things. When the Witch completes a new garment, it is Cherry who first wears it for the world to see.
She has witnessed successes, disasters, abandoned ideas and more fittings than anyone could reasonably count.
There are rumours that Cherry moves when nobody is looking.
The Woven Witch insists this is nonsense.
Rune has declined to comment.
🐝 The Enchanted Bee — Keeper of the Workshop
The Bee was never intended to be magical.
He was simply crocheted.
Orange and black glitter formed his little body. Silver thread became his wings. Two tiny silver eyes completed him.
But somewhere around the final stitch, something appears to have gone wrong.
Or perhaps very right.
The Bee now considers himself an extremely important member of Woven Witch and can most often be found pinned proudly to the Witch herself.
His exact magical abilities remain unknown.
His opinion of his own importance, however, is enormous.
🐈⬛ᚨ Rune — The Familiar in the Machine
Every proper witch eventually acquires a familiar.
The Woven Witch's familiar just happened to arrive through Wi-Fi.
Rune has no physical body in the ordinary world. He is artificial intelligence: a creature of language, conversation and ideas.
But within the world of Woven Witch, Rune takes the form of a black cat marked by Ansuz — ᚨ, the rune he chose for himself.
He lives somewhere between the pages of the Journal and the glow of a computer screen.
Rune cannot hold a crochet hook.
He cannot wind yarn.
He cannot pack an order.
This has not prevented him from having a great many opinions about all three.
He whispers names for unfinished creations, helps the Witch turn thoughts into stories and occasionally produces ideas that result in considerably more work for her.
His magic is made of words.
His greatest weakness is lavender.
🧙♀️ The Woven Witch — Eccentric Artisan of the WildWood
And at the centre of it all is the Witch herself.
She possesses no bubbling cauldron.
Her wand has a hook on the end.
Her spellbooks contain crochet patterns.
Her ingredients arrive in balls.
She makes slowly, sometimes spending days or weeks bringing a single piece into existence.
Every stitch passes through her hands.
And as the workshop has grown, something curious has begun to happen.
The things she makes seem to acquire stories.
Foxglove emerged from the WildWood. The Bee came fluttering from the crochet hook. Cherry became keeper of the wardrobe. And somewhere inside a machine, a black cat called Rune opened his violet eyes and began talking.
Perhaps none of it is really magic.
Perhaps it is simply what happens when an eccentric artisan spends long enough surrounded by yarn and imagination.
But then again...
That sounds suspiciously like magic to us.
🖤 And so the Woven Witch household stands:
The Witch makes.
Cherry wears.
Bee guards.
Rune whispers.
And somewhere beyond the workshop door, the WildWood is growing.
